Hedgesville man accused of remodeling fraud scheme

West Virginia State Police have arrested a Hedgesville man on felony charges of fraudulent schemes related to his home improvement business.

Craig H. Fox, 48, was arrested on December 29 by Cpl. S. R. Smith on a December 18 warrant.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Morgan County Magistrate Court, Fox is the owner of AMR Home Improvements and is accused of using a Morgan County couple’s credit cards to purchase building supplies that were not delivered or installed in their home. He is also accused of taking payments for a remodeling project that he did not complete.

In total, the victims have accused Fox of swindling them out of $49,945 through payments for labor that wasn’t performed and materials ordered but not delivered or installed.

They claim the charges on their credit cards and payments were made between July and December 2020 in multiple purchases, some of which they hadn’t approved – orders of windows, doors, lights, beams, electrical supplies and roof materials.

Cpl. Smith reportedly had found that Fox was arrested in late July in Berkeley County for fraudulent schemes, and has an extensive criminal history of thefts.

An investigation is ongoing.

Fox is free on a $5,000 cash/surety bond.
