Hancock seniors to graduate next Tuesday

by Geoff Fox

Hancock High School Class of 2021 will be walking across the stage at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1. All seven high schools in Washington County will hold their graduation that night.

As a result of the governor’s updated executive order, Washington County Public Schools will hold graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2021 the evening of June 1 to allow more guests to attend.

Seniors will be provided eight additional tickets to invite their guests to the graduation, which will be held at each school’s stadium.

In the event of inclement weather and a postponement of the ceremonies, graduation will take place the following day at the same time.

“WCPS anticipates making a decision to postpone by 5:00 p.m. the day of the event,” the system said on website.

Any postponement would be communicated with parents and guardians through a phone call, text message, and email. It will also be posted on the WCPS website and social media platforms.

Washington County Technical High School will hold its graduation at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2 at South Hagerstown High School. Should South’s graduation be postponed, Tech High’s graduation would be postponed until 7 p.m. the day after South’s graduation.

Barbara Ingram School for the Arts will hold its graduation at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1, at the ARCC at Hagerstown Community College. Because this graduation is held indoors, Barbara Ingram’s graduation will be held rain or shine.

The last day of school for underclassmen is Monday, June 7 with an early dismissal.

Final report cards will be mailed to homes after grades are entered and reviewed.
