1931-2019

Gladys Louise Mitchell, 88, of Berkeley Springs, died Sunday, June 9, 2019 at War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs.

Born April 29, 1931 in Berkeley Springs, she was the daughter of the late Devereux Bowly and Ethel Virginia “Topsy” VanGosen Fox.

She was a member of Alpine United Methodist Church.

She attended public schools in Morgan County and had worked seasonally at Aulabaugh Brothers Canning Factory.

She liked Jimmy Swaggart and the Gaithers Homecoming music.

She is survived by her son, James Mitchell, Berkeley Springs; two grandchildren, Dawn Hovermale and Andrew Mitchell, both of Berkeley Springs; six great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Luther Mitchell on June 25, 2007; one grandson, James “Jamie” Mitchell, Jr. and one brother, Gilbert Fox.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 13 at Alpine United Methodist Church, 5181 Pious Ridge Road, Berkeley Springs with Pastor Steve Dawson and Pastor Donald Preston officiating.

Interment will be in Alpine Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the church on Thursday.

Arrangements are being handled by Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs.
