Gary D. Wachter, Sr.

1940-2018

Gary Dean Wachter, Sr., age 77, of Berkeley Springs, WV passed away Friday, June 8, 2018 surrounded by his loving family at University of Maryland, Baltimore, MD.

Born October 5, 1940 in Morgan County, he was the son of the late Herbert Ford and Barbara Marie Rosalee Michael Wachter.

Gary was a member of First United Methodist Church in Berkeley Springs, WV.

He graduated from Berkeley Springs High School. He received his teaching degree from Shepherd College and a Master’s degree in Administration and Supervision from West Virginia University. Gary was employed for Fifty Years as an educator for Washington County Public Schools teaching elementary, middle school and adult education in Hancock, MD.

He was a member of Riverbend Hunting and Fishing Club and Sleepy Creek Deer Camp.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. He was a great cook and an avid reader.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Linda Carol Wachter at home, one daughter, Lori Lynn Wachter-Miller and husband Mark of Chesapeake, VA, two sons, Gary Wachter, Jr., and Pamela Didawick and Scott Wachter all of Berkeley Springs, one step son Timothy Sowers of Hagerstown, MD, seventeen grandchildren, Markus Dean Miller of Midlothian, VA, Jena Marie Hudgins of Portsmouth, VA, Duncan Joseph Miller of Chesapeake, VA, Garett Ford Wachter of Morgantown, WV, Morgan Brianne Messner, of Berkeley Springs, WV, Daniel Evan Wachter of Morgantown, WV, Tiffany Rider of Little Orleans, MD, Jay Didawick and Sophia Didawick both of Berkeley Springs, Austin Dean Didawick of Berkeley Springs, WV, Ariella Didawick and Zebadiah Didawick both of Berkeley Springs, WV, Hunter Dean Wachter of Berkeley Springs, WV, Austin, Emilee and Jayden Raines all of Hagerstown, MD, Christian Crowe of Hagerstown, MD, 2 great grandchildren, Mark Conrad Miller of Midlothian, VA and Zoe Claire Messner, of Berkeley Springs, WV, two nephews, James and Jennifer Wachter of Berkeley Springs, WV and Kevin Sanders of Martinsburg, WV, one great nephew Drew Wachter of Berkeley Springs, WV, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister Wanda Sanders, one brother Herbert D. Wachter, two nephews Del Wachter and Timmy Sanders and one great grandnephew Jimmy Wachter.

Funeral Services will be on Thursday, June 14 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church; 49 S Green Street, Berkeley Springs, with Rev. Doug Hoffman officiating.

There will be a luncheon following the service in the 1st UMC social Hall.

Private interment will be in Michael family Cemetery.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, June 13 at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
