Freshman Audrey Helmick takes sixth place at WV State Cross Country Championships

by Jamie Harris
The final event of the cross country season took place last Saturday, October 31 at Cabell Midland High School.
The 2020 WV Class AA State Cross Country Championships was ran on a cold Halloween day. However, the two Berkeley Springs High School Lady Indians Cross Country runners proved they were not scared of the competition.
Freshman Audrey Helmick saved her best race of the season for the state meet. In a field of 73 runners the talented Lady Indians distance runner earned her first all-state honors with an impressive sixth place finish with a time of 20:48.49.
Senior Belle Harvey who was looking for another all-state cross country medal missed the top 10 by 15 seconds. Harvey ran the challenging course in 21:20 for a 12th place finish to cap her   Lady Indians cross country career.
Both runners will continue their training this winter as they prepare for the spring track and field season where both will be a consistent threat to a state championship in the distance events.
