Fire destroys garage, damages camper

by Kate Evans

Area firefighters battled a structure fire last Saturday near Hedgesville that completely destroyed a garage and caused some damage to a camper that was someone’s residence.

The fire call came to Morgan County 911 Dispatch Center at 6:13 p.m. on November 10 for a structure fire on Fox Hollow Lane which is just before Snyder’s Bible Church going toward Hedgesville, said Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Company Captain Chris Sipe, who was the officer-in-charge.

Sipe said that the garage was fully involved and on the ground with exposure to the structure on one side of the garage when he got to the scene. He believed the garage was a separate structure. The fire was under control in around 20 minutes with no major issues for firefighters. The fire   also didn’t spread and endanger any other structures or woods.

The garage was a total loss and there were no injuries to the residents or to firefighters. The Red Cross was notified but wasn’t needed as the individual had other living arrangements, Sipe said.

Fire departments on the scene were Berkeley Springs, Hedgesville, Great Cacapon, South Morgan, Hancock and Back Creek Valley Volunteer Fire Companies, he said. Morgan County EMS also responded to the fire. Units were on the scene for approximately two hours.
