by Geoff Fox

A Saturday morning fire destroyed an abandoned house near the intersection of Willow Road and Seavolt Road west of Hancock.

According to Hancock Fire Company Chief Robert Hoopengardner, the call came in at 5:22 a.m. for an abandoned house on fire near the intersection of the two roads.

Hoopengardner said when crews arrived, they found a two-story house fully engulfed in fire with most of the house already having collapsed.

No one was injured, the chief said in an email.

“The fire marshal’s office responded,” he said. “It is currently under investigation.”

Fire crews from Hancock, Berkeley Springs, Little Orleans, Great Cacapon, Needmore, Williamsport, Washington County Special Operations responded as did Hancock Rescue Squad.
