Emlynn Joseph Shives, age 68, of Hancock, Md., died on Monday, February 22, 2021 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Md.

Born July 1, 1952 in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., he was the son of the late Robert Francis Shives II and Julia Josephine Bohrer Shives.

He was a Christian.

Emlynn was a 1970 class graduate of Hancock High School and a 1974 graduate of Towson State University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

In 1978, Emlynn and his wife, Stephanie acquired ownership of Shives Pizza & Subs from Julia Shives who started the family business in 1970. Over the next 43 years, they supported the community with their generosity and were recognized as the 2014 Hancock Business Persons of the Year by the Hancock Chamber of Commerce.

He was an Eagle Scout who enjoyed canoeing, fishing, taking pictures, collecting antiques and traveling.

Emlynn relished using his boisterous personality to entertain and make people laugh, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. E

mlynn is survived by his wife of 44 years, Stephanie Inez Redick Shives, at home; his children, Emlynn Spencer Shives and his wife, Megan, Dylan Alexander Shives and his wife, Krista, all of Berkeley Springs; grandchildren, Jackson Spencer Shives, Emery Starr Shives and Lincoln Alexander Shives, all of Berkeley Springs; one brother, Robert Francis Shives III, of Hancock and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Francine Elbin.

Services and burial will be private.
