Drug overdose suspected in county man’s death

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the Tuesday, July 3 death of a Morgan County man in an apparent drug overdose in a camper trailer, said Morgan County Sheriff K.C. Bohrer in a July 5 press release.

Chief Deputy John Walter responded to a residence on River Road at 5:51 a.m. on July 3 for a death investigation due to overdose at the request of Morgan County Emergency Medical Services personnel.

Christopher J. Herold, age 53, was found dead in the camper trailer.

Chief Walter found evidence at the scene that was indicative of a drug overdose, said Bohrer in the release. Walter also interviewed Herold’s wife, who confirmed that her husband was a chronic heroin user.

Morgan County Medical Examiner Christy Duckwall also responded to the scene.

“The incident is still under investigation but preliminary indications point to a heroin overdose at this time,” Bohrer said in the press release.

Bohrer said early Friday morning that they were still investigating Herold’s death and that he couldn’t release any further details at this time as there is a pending investigation on other things related to the death.
