David Lester Waugh


David Lester Waugh, age 85, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Sunday, May 9, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family and while under the care of his daughters and his daughter-in-law.

Born November 19, 1935 in Berkeley Springs, he was the son of the late Hammond Lester and Frances Venata Waugh Wills.

He was a Christian. David attended schools in Morgan County.

He worked at Hepburn Orchards in Hancock, Md. and Aulabaugh’s Canning Factory in Hancock, W.Va. David worked for six years for Western Union before working with Potomac Edison, where he retired as a lineman after 33 years of service.

He enjoyed hunting, butchering, making apple butter, watching boxing, sitting on the porch, going to the casino and doing scratch offs. David enjoyed going out to eat, especially for a good steak, spending time with his grandchildren.

David is survived by his wife of 62½ years Betty Louise Potter Waugh, at home; his children, Ricky Lee Waugh and his wife Crystal, of Inwood, W.Va., Randy Lester Waugh and his wife Tammy, Lisa Lynn Coble and Frances Louise Waugh, all of Berkeley Springs; two sisters, Kialeen Potter and Dolly Murphy, both of Berkeley Springs; four grandchildren, James Waugh, Elizabeth Waugh, Ross Waugh, Andrew Coble, Jr.; nine great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by one grandson, Jeremy “JP” Whiteside; his stepfather, Robert Lee Wills; four sisters, Margaret Rose, Joann Waugh, Kay “Kate” Miller, Barbara Reeves; two brothers, Robert Wills and Charles “Duke” Wills.

Funeral services were conducted at noon on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Pastor Kenny Mason officiated. Burial was in Spohrs Crossroads Cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
