David Eugene Omps
1951-2021
David Eugene Omps, age 69, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family and while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born August 16, 1951 in Berkeley Springs, he was the son of the late George Eugene “Porky” and Edith Lucille Stotler Omps.
He was a Christian.
David was a graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.
He worked for Tom Seely Furniture.
In 1978, David and his brothers, Larry and Wayne established the Colonial Village Industry, they purchased Dawson’s Hardware from the Dawson family in 1987 and moved the business to its current location in 1997, and in 1990 he and his brothers established the West Ridge Development Corp.
He liked woodworking, building furniture, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, hunting and shooting clay birds.
David enjoyed relaxing and watching wildlife at his home and loved being around his family and friends.
David is survived by his children, Jennefer Nichole Omps, Zena Michelle Omps, Benjamin David Omps and his wife Brandi, Megan Ann Bennett and her husband Tyson, all of Berkeley Springs; two brothers, Larry Omps and his wife Barbara, Wayne Allen Omps and his wife Kip, all of Berkeley Springs; six grandchildren, Jeffery Coffman, Brice Coffman, Zachary Taylor, Zander Taylor, Zyler Taylor, Owen Bennett; two great grandchildren, Eli and Abby and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Denise Ann Hovermale Omps on May 21, 2021.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 4, 2021 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, WV, with Pastor Kenny Mason officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
