1938-2018

Dale Loyd Kipp, Jr., age 80, of Hanover, Md., and Great Cacapon, W.Va., passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2018, peacefully at his home while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

Born May 29, 1938 in Apollo, Pa., he was the son of the late Dale Loyd, Sr. and Vera Lucille Sarver Kipp.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Berkeley Springs.

He was a member of Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post #60 and the Delectable Mountain Quilt Guild.

He was a graduate of Kittanning High School, Kittanning, Pa.

Dale spent his youth playing in the woods of Vandergrift, Pennsylvania and working in his parents’ various businesses.

At 17 he joined the army and began his 40-year journey helping to protect his country. He went to places throughout the world including Vietnam, Ethiopia, England, Berlin and Bad Aibling, Germany. After 14 years he left the Army and started his career with the U.S. Department of Defense, from which he retired.

Dale and Susannah married on August 13, 1976 and hit the ground running. Over 42 years they simultaneously developed amazing careers with the U.S. Department of Defense, raised their family, renovated houses, traveled the world, developed their business “Your Wish Video,” kept a large vegetable garden and rarely missed a church service on the weekend. They retired and built their dream home. Dale was a very dedicated member of his community and a beloved, active member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where he often volunteered with the Knights of Columbus. He also enjoyed his afternoon outings with the R.O.M.E.O.’s and could often be found chatting over lunch with one of his many friends. He was also an amazing artist and was talented in leatherwork, stained glass and videography. He will be deeply missed by many.

He is survived by his beloved wife Susannah Elizabeth Hayden Kipp, at home; six children, Ricky Allen Kipp of Marriottsville Md., Michael Anthony Allen of Jacobus, Pa., James Lucas Allen of Great Cacapon, W.Va., Thomas Ethan Allen of Severna Park, Md., Cecelia Lucille Kipp of Arbutus, Md., and David Lester Kipp of Hanover, Md.; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Liberty & S. Washington Streets, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., with the Rev. Fr. Leonard A. Smith as celebrant. Interment with military honors provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard will be in the family cemetery near Great Cacapon.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Friday at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., where there will be a Christian Wake service at 7 p.m.
