Washington County will be the site of the 2019 USA Cycling Amateur Road National Championships. The following roads and traffic patterns will be affected by the race:
On Thursday, June 20, Maryland Route 67 will be closed to through traffic for cycling time trials.
Local traffic can travel on the shoulders of road to the nearest detour route as cyclists will travel on the main road. Detours will be posted to route traffic around the project. The event will be in effect from 3:30 a.m. until the end of the event.
On Friday, June 21 and Saturday, June 22, a small segment of Broadfording Road, between US 40 and Martin Street in the Clear Spring area, will be closed to through traffic for the cycling road race.
Draper Road will also be signed for one-way only traffic. The event is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. and conclude by 6 p.m. each day.
There will be rolling closures in effect. Yield to the Sheriff’s Office and traffic control personnel, motor cycles, and the cyclists.
On Sunday, June 23, a portion of the USA Cycling Amateur Road Nationals bicycle race will be held on streets in the City Center of Downtown Hagerstown.
The race route consists of a loop on portions of West Washington Street, South Potomac Street, West Baltimore Street, Hood Street, and Summit Avenue. The race route will be closed to all vehicular traffic during the event, and detour plans will be implemented to direct traffic around the closures.
South Potomac Street, between Antietam Street and Baltimore Street, will be closed at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 22 for event setup; all other streets that comprise the race route will be closed at 4 a.m. on Sunday morning. It is expected that all streets will be reopened to traffic by 8 p.m. Sunday evening.
Emergency vehicles will not be able to pass through any of the streets comprising the race route while the closures are in effect. Dispatchers are cautioned that traffic congestion is likely on the detour routes and on streets near the closures.
