Commissioners put 911 director on leave

by Kate Shunney

Morgan County commissioners placed the county’s 911 director, Zachary Caldwell, on paid administrative leave on Wednesday, October 3 and said he would not perform any duties for the county for at least two weeks.

County officials declined to answer questions about what caused the personnel action, which came after commissioners returned from a 45-minute closed session on Wednesday.

Commissioner Ken Reed made the motion to put Caldwell on leave, effective immediately, and the motion passed 3-0.

In response to questions from The Morgan Messenger about what the action meant, Commission President Joel Tuttle said, “It’s pretty self-explanatory. He won’t be doing any administrative functions with 911.”

Tuttle said Deputy 911 Director Sarah Hogbin will step in as acting director of the county’s emergency dispatch system.

When asked how long Caldwell will remain on paid leave, commissioners said that would be in effect until at least October 17, the date of the Commission’s next regular meeting.
