COVID wasn’t going to stop the Hancock Parks and Recreation from having their second annual Pumpkin Derby this year this past Sunday.
Thirty-seven participants entered the race this year with pumpkins decorated in a variety of different designs.
Councilman Tim Boyer, who put the race together, said the 37 participants were up from last year’s number of 25.
Overall, he said, about 140 people were in attendance for the race in the parking lot of the Hancock Veterans Memorial Library.
There were unicorn pumpkins, cactus pumpkins, Paw Patrol pumpkins, the Goodyear Blimp pumpkin, a princess pumpkin, Frankenstein pumpkin, a crab pumpkin, and many other creative pumpkins.
There were prizes for the fastest and best decorated pumpkins.
The three fastest were Blaise McCarty, Makensie Boyer, and Makayla Sexton. Each winner got a trophy.
The three best decorated pumpkins were Quinn Little, Like Lindeman, and Savannah Little. Likewise, the top three received a trophy.
In a social media post, the Parks and Recreation department said the judges had a tough time picking the winners as there were too many “awesome pumpkins.”
