Before the Christmas break started the Berkeley Springs High School Lady Indians Basketball Team picked up their first two wins of the 2018-19 season.
The Lady Indians traveled to Hagerstown, Md. on Monday, December 17 to take on Grace Academy. Berkeley Springs took a 13-11 lead after the first quarter of play.
In the second quarter the Tribe increased the lead to 27-22 as the two teams went into the half.
In the third quarter Grace Academy outscored Berkeley Springs 10-9 to cut the Tribe lead to 36-32.
Both teams waited until the fourth quarter to finally put some points on the scoreboard. Berkeley Springs saw Grace outscore them 23-21 in the final stanza, but still managed to hold on for the 57-55 win.
Berkeley Springs was led by sophomore guard Caybrie Clatterbuck who scored a career high 22 points including an impressive 13/18 from the free throw line. Junior guard Taylor Stotler (15 points, five rebounds and four assists), sophomore guard Ty’Aira Mifflin (nine points and six rebounds) and senior post player Darby Harris (five points and 10 rebounds) helped lead the Tribe. Sara Veara (four points) and Katie Hoffman (two points) also scored for Berkeley Springs.
The Lady Indians hosted the East Hardy Cougars on Thursday, December 20.
Once again the Tribe was locked in a battle in the first quarter as Berkeley Springs took a 12-11 lead.
In the second period the Lady Indians went on an impressive 22-7 run to go into the locker room up 34-18.
The Lady Indians outscored East Hardy 9-4 in the third quarter to keep the lead at 43-22.
In the final period the Tribe and Cougars scored five points each as the Lady Indians took the 48-27 win.
Berkeley Springs was led by Mifflin (14 points, five rebounds, two steals and one assist) and senior post Harris (10 points, 13 rebounds, five blocked shots and one steal). Clatterbuck (eight points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals), Stotler (seven points, four assists, two steals), Karalyne Banks (five points, 11 rebounds and three assists), Veara (two points, three rebounds, and three steals) and Harley Didawick (two points) also helped lead the Lady Indians.
