An 11-year-old child injured in a Saturday ATV accident was resuscitated by emergency medical personnel and flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries. A second child was evaluated for injuries and released after the incident.
According to Morgan County 911 officials, dispatchers received a call at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, February 15 for an ATV rollover on private property in the 2800 block of New Hope Road. According to the caller, two juvenile males had been riding ATVs and one of the vehicles ended up on top of the rider, trapping him underneath. The trapped rider was reportedly unconscious.
Morgan County Rescue Service and Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Company personnel responded to the scene. According to fire officials, the first person on the scene, chief of Morgan County EMS, confirmed that the child was in trauma arrest, suffering a cardiac event as a result of physical trauma.
Multiple EMS units responded to the scene, along with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department and West Virginia State Police. Officers assisted in flipping the ATV off the pinned child, police sources said.
EMS personnel transported the child to War Memorial Hospital within 15 minutes of arrival, and he was then flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown for further treatment.
