Child drowns Saturday in southern Morgan County

West Virginia State Police are still looking into the circumstances surrounding the drowning of a two-year old girl in southern Morgan County on Saturday, July 24.

Morgan County 911 received an emergency call at 10:19 a.m. on Saturday morning for a possible drowning at a residence in the 12000 block of Valley Road.

South Morgan Volunteer Fire Company, Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Company, Reynold’s Store and Morgan County EMS  were dispatched in response to the call.

Medical treatment was administered to the child, who was transported as a Priority 1 patient to Winchester Medical Center. The child did not survive. The West Virginia State Police were contacted after the child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Sgt. Nazelrod of the Berkeley Springs detachment of the West Virginia State Police is in charge of the unattended deathinvestigation. No further details were available at press time, including the name of the child.

Family members have set up an online fundraising page to cover funeral costs for the child, who they refer to as Izzy.
