A Chambersburg man is in jail and facing several drug related charges after being arrested in Hancock at the Super 8 motel with a large quantity of drugs on March 31.
Shawn Eugene Hann, 52, was charged with possession of not marijuana, possession with intent to distribute, community nuisance, possession of a large amount of CDS, possession of CDS paraphernalia, resisting/interfering with arrest, and obstructing and hindering.
Around 4:46 p.m. last Tuesday, Hancock Police Chief Jim Robison was dispatched to help the Maryland State Police find an erratic driver on westbound Interstate 70.
The caller told dispatch a driver of a Chevrolet Cavalier was swerving all over the road and appeared to be under the influence.
A dispatcher told Robison the Cavalier got off I-70 at Exit 3 and onto Main Street.
Robison went from an overpass on the interstate and onto West Main Street to look for the car. As he was driving west on Main Street, the caller told 911 the Cavalier had pulled into the Super 8 Motel on Limestone Road.
Robison went to the motel and was looking in the vehicle when the motorist who followed the Cavalier pulled up and described the man he had seen driving the car.
The motorist pointed out damage on the Cavalier to Robison and told him he believed the car had struck a guardrail. A Washington County Sheriff’s deputy also arrived on the scene.
Motel staff directed officers to the room where the man was located.
Robison and the deputy saw the man, later identified as Hann, walk out of the room and they began to question him.
Police said Hann appeared to be impaired as they began to pat him down.
While Hann was being searched, police alleged he attempted to flee. He had to be subdued to be handcuffed, police said.
Robison’s search found a number of gel capsules in the pocket of Hann’s pants with a knife falling from his waistband as he struggled with police.
In the car, more capsules were found hidden under the rear passenger seat along with several bottles of prescription medications bearing Hann’s name. The capsules field-tested positive for fentanyl.
Those 127 capsules weighed more than 60 grams, which is 2.1 ounces.
There was also $223 seized by police.
According to online court documents, Hagerstown Police officers were those who filed the arrest charges against Hann. The case was turned over to the Washington County Narcotics Task Force.
Hancock police said the testing for the amount of drugs found was more than the local agency was equipped to handle.
Robison said the case is not tied to the recent theft of medication from the Home Center Pharmacy.
Hann is incarcerated and being held without bond.
