Car rolls over, catches fire along 522

A vehicle rolled off the western edge of U.S. 522 south of Berkeley Springs on Sunday, landing on its top and catching fire. Multiple emergency unit responded to the incident across from Sheetz.

According to Morgan County 911, a passerby called in the single vehicle accident at 4:40 p.m. reporting a vehicle off the roadway and on fire.

The occupant was out of the vehicle when Morgan County EMS arrived on the scene. Passersby reported that a member of the public had pulled the lone driver up from the car and to safety.

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Department and Hancock Fire Company also responded to the incident, which closed down a portion of the southbound lane of U.S. 522 for a short time.

Responders cleared the scene at 5:45 p.m. after mitigating a fuel spill associated with the wreck.

An investigation into the cause of the wreck is ongoing by the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department.
