The Berkeley Springs High School Girl’s Tennis Team has started off the 2018 season with two wins in two games. They defeated Ritchie County and Petersburg with scores of 6-1 for each match.
In both matches, the Indians had wins from all their singles players; Dalas Carder, Natalie Hashem, Lizzy Langenstein and Leah Reed. The doubles teams of Carder/ Hashem and Langenstein/ Reed also posted wins in both matches.
Junior Carder returns as the number one seed, returning sophomore Hashem fills the number two seed. After a year off, but returning for her senior year, Langenstein fills the number three seed. Returning sophomore Reed fills the number four seed. Senior Shayla Johnson returns to fill the number five seed and newcomer Morgan Langenstein fills the number six seed. Rounding out the girls team is returner Dakota Carder and newcomers Nicole Develing, Emily Ruiz, Lillie Gill-Newton and Sam Herbst.
The Berkeley Springs High School Boy’s Tennis Team has started off the 2018 season with one win in two matches.
They defeated Ritchie County 6-1 with wins from singles players Dylan Carder, Caleb Stotler, Matthew Rubeck and Ben Michael.
The doubles teams of Carder/Stotler and Rubeck/ Michael also posted wins.
The Tribe lost to Petersburg in a hard fought match 4-3 in which there were two tiebreakers, one came out with a win and one a loss. Wins came from singles players Rubeck and Michael. The doubles team of Carder/ Rubeck also posted a win.
The boys team lost first seed Alec Martin and second seed Trevor Nelson to graduation, but return strong with junior Carder taking over as the number one seed, senior Stotler at the number two seed, junior Rubeck at the third seed and junior Michael as the fourth seed.
“With the return of so many strong players this year, the girls and boys teams look to have a successful season for Berkeley Springs Tennis. With no home courts, they will be traveling as far as Wheeling to make sure enough regional teams are played so they can be seeded in the regional tournament,” stated veteran head coach Raynette Mock.
