Bridge over C&O canal in Hancock removed for repairs

The bridge over the C&O Canal to the Little Tonoloway Park was removed on  Tuesday, December 15, by a crew from Aspen Construction and Digging & Rigging, Inc. The bridge was originally supposed to be removed in November, but issues with a material shortage due to the pandemic halted any work at the bridge site. The new bridge will be installed in January 2021, but no exact date is known at this time. The old bridge was set to the side of the canal along Berm Road until a crew can come and pick it up. Once it is hauled away, the old bridge will be destroyed and salvaged for pieces. Once work resumes, there will be some prep work that still needs to be done before the new bridge is installed. Until that time, the end of the old bridge will be barricaded.
