Blanche Jeanette McCarty
1926-2021
Blanche Jeanette McCarty, age 94, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at her home, while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born October 5, 1926 in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles Wesley and Ottie Blanche Shade Michael.
She attended Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. Blanche attended Mt. Garfield School, an old time one room house, and started working at the age of fifteen at the Interwoven Hosiery Mill in Berkeley Springs. She then worked as a certified nursing assistant at Valley View Nursing Home. She was a wonderful cook and was always canning, baking or gardening. Blanche raised eight children but was Momma and Grandma to a lot of people.
She is survived by her children, Michael Steven McCarty and his wife Sandie, Vickie Rae Bivens, Wendy Lou McCoy and her husband Bruce, Melissa Ann Keefer and her husband Richard and Joyce Ann Everett and her husband Dennis, all of Berkeley Springs, Donald Lee McCarty and his wife Shelley, of Whitacre, Va., Kathy Lynn Lopp and her husband Rodney, of Cross Junction, Va., Larry Wilbur McCarty and his wife Donna, of Gainsboro, Va., and Tammy Sue Breeden and her husband Butch of Hedgesville, W.Va.; one sister, Carrie Ellen Michael and one brother, Charles Edward Michael, both of Berkeley Springs; 17 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Albert “Mack” McCarty, on August 14, 1993, an infant son, her son in law, Ted Bivens and five sisters.
Graveside funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Mt. Tabor Cemetery, 559 Tabor Road, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., with Pastor Kenny Mason officiating.
