by Jamie Harris

A track season that was filled with a lot of cold and rainy weather came to an end this past weekend at the WV State Track and Field Championships. Programs from Berkeley Springs High School and Paw Paw High School made the trek to the state capital to seek state championship gold. Neither program was able to crown individual state champions but both schools represented Morgan County with pride.

On the Class AA side Berkeley Springs High School brought 19 boys and girls down to Charleston with hopes of state gold. However, in the end on the boys side only sophomore Avery Lackey picked up All-State honors with a sixth place finish in the pole vault with a vault of 12’.

On the girls side the Lady Indians got a third place finish from their 4×800 meter relay team with a time of 10:15. The team consisted of junior Alex Banks, senior Stephanie Golden, freshman Belle Harvey and junior Brooke Davison. In the high jump senior Tori Reed capped her career with a jump of 4’10” which was good enough for sixth place.

On the Class A side the Paw Paw High School boys track team members of Dominic Tanouye, Hunter Kasekamp and Matt Kidwell were unsuccessful in picking up All-State honors. Senior Matt Kidwell was 14th in the long jump with a jump of 18’5”. In the 3200 meters senior Kasekamp finished in 10th place in his final high school meet with a time of 10:53.
