1941-2020

Benjamin Lee DeShong, age 78, of Hancock, Md., passed away on Friday, January 10, 2020, at Doey’s House, in Hagerstown, Md.

Born October 18, 1941, in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of the late Bryan DeShong and Mary Marguerite (Schetrompf) DeShong; and the husband of Rosela M. “Kitty” (Rhodes) DeShong.

He was a master carpenter, and retired from Master’s Woodshop, Inc., in Hagerstown.

Ben was a man with a great sense of humor, who had a great passion for music, and was a self-taught guitar player.

In addition to his wife he is survived by five daughters, Joyce A. Ganley and her husband, David, of Hagerstown, Tammy K. Greer, also of Hagerstown, Laura L. Mainhart, of Damascus, Md., Kelly M. Rohrer and her husband, Mark of Rohresville, Md., and Angela L. Kline and her husband, Jeremy, of Smithsburg, Md.; one son, Sonny L. Palmer, of Keedysville; a sister, Betty Jane Brill, of New Holland, Pa.; a brother, Paul R. DeShong, of Pennsburg, Pa.; thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

The family received friends on Monday, January 13, 2020, from 11 a.m. until 12 noon, at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock. A funeral service was held at noon with Chaplin Eileen Flenner officiating. His interment was private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown MD 21742.
