Baseball Senior Spotlight Luke Spielman

by Jamie Harris
Berkeley Springs High School senior Luke Spielman was an offensive threat at the plate with a quick swing and the ability to hit the ball all over the baseball field.
Spielman helped contribute to a lot of wins at the plate, in the outfield and on the pitching mound for the Indians over the last three years. Spielman was just as valuable on the defensive side where he shined on the pitcher’s mound and in the outfield.
Last spring, Spielman was named to the Class AA PVC team and The Morgan Messenger and The Hancock News All-Area Baseball team. The as a junior he batted .362 (25-69), .438 on base percentage, .522 slugging percentage, seven doubles, three triples, 13 RBIs, 11 stolen bases and 21 runs.
While on the pitching mound, Spielman went 5-2 with a 1.96 ERA in 42 innings pitched with 50 strikeouts, eight walks, 12 earned runs and held opponents to a .236 batting average.
Spielman was a four year letterman in baseball, two year letterman in football and played junior varsity basketball for two years.
Upon graduating this spring, Spielman is looking to either attend college or join the WV Air National Guard.
