Alfred W. Deneen

1934-2018

Alfred Wayne Deneen, age 83, of Warfordsburg, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at the Berkeley Springs Nursing Center, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

Born December 22, 1934, in Amaranth, Pa., he was the son of the late John Milton and Alverta Jane (Miller) Deneen, and the husband of Joyce C. (Kline) Deneen, whom he married 62 years ago.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served on the USS Miller during the Korean War; and he retired in 1991 from Mack Truck, in Hagerstown, Md., where he had worked for 28 years as a mechanic.

He was a member of the Whips Cove Church, in Warfordsburg, where he had previously served as a deacon.

He was also a past Master at the James W. Bowers Masonic Lodge 173, in Hancock, Md.; a member of Gideons International; the American Legion Post 26, in Hancock; the Warfordsburg Lions Club; and the VFW Post 8333, in Breezewood, Pa.

Alfred was an avid golfer and greatly enjoyed hunting and traveling.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Douglas W. Deneen and his wife, Krista, of Clear Spring, Md., Brian L. Deneen and his wife, Barb, of Needmore, Pa., and Stephen D. Deneen and his wife, Lanette, of Crystal Spring, Pa.; one daughter, Pamela D. Bowers and her husband, Robbie, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Oleta Stanley, of Warfordsburg, Velma Doran, of Murrysville, Pa., Cindy Smith, of Shippensburg, Pa., and Gloria Riggleman, of Winchester, Va.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Milton, James, Glen, and Eldon Deneen; and one sister, Caundell Ward.

The family received friends on Friday, August 17, 2018, from 6 until 8 p.m., at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock, Md.

Funeral services were held at the Funeral Home on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Delmas Bard officiating. Burial followed at the Parkhead Cemetery, in Big Pool, Md., military honors were conducted by the Tri-State Honor Guard.
