Albert G. Salter
1926-2018
Albert G. Salter, 92, Hagerstown, Md., died Monday, October 15, 2018 at Coffman Nursing Home, Hagerstown.
Born February 15, 1926 in Upland, Calif., he was the son of the late Albert G. Salter, Sr. and Geraldine Callahan.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He served in World War II as a radar specialist on the U.S.S. Elmore.
He was of Catholic faith.
Moving to Lansing, Mich. after the war in 1950 he graduated with a B.A. in English from Michigan State University. He also did graduate study in English at the University of California at Berkeley. He worked first as a copy writer, later as an executive, beginning in Grand Rapids, Mich. and led to his long-time employment at W.B. Doner and Company – in Detroit in 1962-3 and then in Baltimore from 1963 to 1983. In 1983 he moved from Baltimore to Houston, where he founded his own agency, Salter and Associates. He retired at the age of 63 devoting himself to consulting and writing. He then moved to Berkeley Springs in 1989 where he wrote a column “The Country Side” for The Morgan Messenger. He was a longtime member of the APIC (American Political Items Collectors).
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Janet Siegmann Salter, Hagerstown; three children, Philip Salter and William Salter, both of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Mary Salter, Baltimore; one sister, Mary Salter, Long Beach, Calif.; one brother, Jack Salter, Royal Oak, Mich. and seven grandchildren.
