Lewis Dale Heiner
Lewis Dale “Chief” Heiner, age 87, of Martinsburg, W.Va., died on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at his home.
Born November 20, 1934 in Hedgesville, W.Va., he was the son of the late Lewis Franklin and Ruth Elizabeth Butts Heiner.
He was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Martinsburg where he served on the Administrative Council for several years.
He was a 1952 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.
He served in the U.S. Army, Combat Engineers, from 1953 until 1956, of which two years and six months were in Europe. Upon deactivation from active duty, he was attached to the inactive reserves until discharge in 1960. He worked as a Design/Construction Engineer for the State of Maryland Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1986. He then accepted the same position with the City of Baltimore until his retirement in 1996.
He was a member of the Maryland Association of Engineers, Managerial and Professional Society of Baltimore City and the Maryland Classified Employees Association.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley Maxine Everitt Heiner, at home, one daughter, Lydia Ann Coceres and her husband Joe and one son, Stephen Dale Heiner and his wife Cathy, all of Martinsburg, three grandchildren, Jennifer, Kyle and Marissa, four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Addison, Kira and Evelyn and one nephew, Jeff.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandchild, Kristen Lee. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Interment with military honors provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard will be in Whips Cove Cemetery, Flickerville, Pa.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 700 New York Avenue, Martinsburg, WV 25401.
