Betty Lee Spitzer, age 94, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Friday, February 25, 2022 at War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs.

Born March 1, 1927 in Berkeley Springs, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Theodore and Nellie Ada Smith Whisner.

She was a member of Berkeley Baptist Church.

Betty was a graduate of Berkeley Springs High School and had worked in the personnel department of Citizens National Bank. She also had worked with the law firm Trump & Trump.

She enjoyed reading, crocheting, word puzzle books, going to church and singing the Lord’s praise. She enjoyed family vacations.

Betty is survived by her children, Cassandra Thurston and JoAnn “Jodi” Golden and her husband Shannon, all of Berkeley Springs, her grandchildren, Kari Brown and her husband Devin, Kristian Thurston, Frank McCumbee, Jr., Nikki Stoneberger and her husband Jamey, Brady Longerbeam, Chloe McDaniel, Sidney Koontz and her husband Brad, Matthew McCumbee, Kirstin Baker, Ethan Miller, her great grandchildren, Blake Herrera, Lilly Despard, Lotus Despard and Jonathan Koontz.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Bell Spitzer, her son, Roland Cornell Spitzer, one daughter, Kathy Jean Spitzer, four sisters, Faun Maxine Sipes, Charlotte Louise Sheppard, Hazel Nellie Hofe and Lavida Christine Zeilor, five brothers, Levi William Whisner, Meredith Lorenza Whisner, Oliver Raymond Whisner, Noel Sheldon Whisner and Denver David Whisner, one grandson, William McCumbee and one great-great-grandson, Landon Longerbeam.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at Mt. Nebo Cemetery, 791 Nebo Road, Great Cacapon, W.Va. with Pastor Joey Giles officiating. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
