Lady Indians take two more wins

The Berkeley Springs High School Lady Indians varsity basketball team picked up two more wins last week to improve to 6-2 on the season. Playing in its home gym the Lady Indians had to scrap and come from behind in one of the wins.

Last Monday, January 3 the Lady Indians hosted Grace Academy. In the first quarter Grace Academy jumped out to a 12-8 lead. At the half Grace was still in control 20-13 as Berkeley Springs struggled to fit its offensive rhythm.

In the third quarter the Lady Indians started their rally outscoring the visitors 13-2 to take a 26-22 lead. In the fourth quarter the teams matched each other point for point with 12 each. However, the Lady Indians held on to record win five of the season by the score of 38-32.

Berkeley Springs was led by Sara Veara (12 points and 5 rebounds), Emma Widmyer (11 points and 8 assists), Alaira Harrington (8 points), Maddie Fauver (4 points and 12 rebounds), Grace Risinger (2 points) and Jazmine Briscoe (1 points).

On Wednesday, January 5 the Lady Indians hosted the Hancock Panthers. Berkeley Springs jumped out to a 17-8 first quarter lead and cruised from there. By the half the Lady Indians held a 30-9 advantage. The Tribe upped their lead to 50-16 by the end of the third quarter. The final quarter saw the Lady Indians wrap up the 54-19 win.

Leading the Berkeley Springs charge was Veara (10 points), Harly Didawick (10 points), Widmyer (9 points), Harrington (7 points), Fauver (6 points), Risinger (6 points), Melissa Seabright (4 points), and Briscoe (2 points).

Next up for Berkeley Springs (6-2) is a pair of road games. On Monday, January 10 the Tribe will travel to Keyser for a 7:30 p.m. contest. Then on Thursday, January 13 the Lady Indians will travel to East Hardy for a 6:30 p.m. game.
