William Harrison Youngblood
William Harrison “Bill” Youngblood, age 89, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va. died on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at The Berkeley Springs Center LLC.
Born May 10, 1932 in Great Cacapon, W.Va., he was the son of the late Lawrence William and Eleanor Frances Thrasher Youngblood.
He attended Wesleyan Chapel in Berkeley Springs.
Bill went to public schools in Great Cacapon and Berkeley Springs.
He worked at Fairchild-Hiller Aircraft in Hagerstown during the 1960’s and then worked as a forklift operator at General Motors in Martinsburg for 32 years. During his time at General Motors, he also worked at Eddie’s Tire Service for about 20 years. He was a member of United Auto Workers Union #1950.
Bill served as a Corporal with the U.S. Army from November 18, 1952 until his honorable discharge on November 17, 1954 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, motorcycling and loved to watch westerns on TV. He was a Dale Earnhardt, Sr. fan and followed NASCAR races.
Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Donna Jean Hogbin Youngblood, at home, his children, William Edward Youngblood and his wife Charity and Tamelia Jeanne Hummel and her husband Daniel, all of Berkeley Springs and Phillip Dewayne Youngblood and his wife Rebecca, of Martinsburg, one sister, Doris Mae Fleece of Berkeley Springs, one granddaughter, Natalie Jamison Youngblood of Martinsburg, many nieces, nephews and his dear yorkie “Nat.”
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Edward Youngblood and his grandson, Kyle William Youngblood on January 22, 2017.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. where friends will be received from noon-2 p.m. Rev. William C. Swope will officiate. Interment with graveside military honors provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard will be in Bethel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Tri-State Honor Guard, 527 N. Washington Street, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.
