Three deaths now attributed to local nursing home COVID-19 outbreak

by Kate Evans

There have been three deaths associated with COVID-19 at the Stonerise Healthcare Berkeley Springs Center as of Monday, September 20, according to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) COVID-19 dashboard.

Some 39 patients and six staff members at the Berkeley Springs Stonerise facility were actively positive for the COVID-19 virus in the outbreak as of Tuesday morning.  The DHHR COVID-19 dashboard is updated weekly on Friday mornings for long-term care facilities.

According to Stonerise Healthcare website, there are now 39 positive COVID-19 cases at their Berkeley Springs Center. Laura Barker, Stonerise Healthcare Vice President of Communications and Strategic Planning, confirmed that number on Tuesday.

Stonerise Marketing Director Kristin Anderson said last week that  “immediately upon learning of the first positive case, our first priority was to provide patients and employees the proper care, including isolating from others, contacting all families and working to determine the extent of the outbreak by facilitating center-wide testing.”   “We are taking all necessary precautions to prevent further spread of the virus and coordinating closely with local and state health officials, including the Morgan County Health Department,” she said.

“We are supporting aggressive safety measures to contain the spread of the virus, including restriction of in-person visitation, use of advanced personal protective equipment, temporary suspension of patient gatherings, conducting ongoing center-wide testing and continuing to follow all infection control policies and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines,” Anderson stressed.

“We urge the local community to join us and our hospital partners in the fight against COVID-19 by embracing the vaccine, social distancing and wearing masks,” Barker said.

I have to question , How many of these patients and employees were Vaccinated out of the 39 Positive cases ? Why do we NOT see this published ? How many of the Vaccinated were covid-19 positive as well ? If you’re going to publish this type of info , Publish it ALL including the number of those who have been vaccinated who has the Covid-19 virus. Lets not push the issues of forcing these vaccinations onto others …

Spot on, Chuck! It is really the very minimum of responsible reporting to share information that rounds out the story. I commend PG for trying to throw some gas on the fire. But, I don’t think it is needed.
