Finishes fourth at WV Girls State Championships

Over the many years of coaching the Berkeley Springs High School Golf Team Indians head coach Dale McCumbee had never had a player hit a hole in one. The coach can now cross that off of his list as senior Sara Veara made BSHS golf history this past week with a hole in one at the Jefferson Invitational.

The Indians #1 golfer was coming off an impressive fourth place finish earlier in the week at the WV Girls State Championships and added the hole in one to cap off the week.

At the Jefferson Invitational, Veara came up to the 12th hole with her trusty pitching wedge and drove the ball 122 yards for the historical feat. She ended up finishing in second place with a score of 77 behind Woodbridge’s David Robinson (76).

Veara was the only local player to make the all-tournament team as Woodbridge nabbed the other three spots. As a team Berkeley Springs finished with a score of 437 as Dakota Hamrick (114), Truly Henry (116) and Peyton Caldwell (129) rounded out the scoring for the Tribe.

Veara made her final appearance in the WV girls state championships on Tuesday, September 7. Before the event she and four other female golfers were recognized for the four years of participation. Veara shot a 76 for the event to finish in fourth place just three strokes away from champion Taylor Sargent from Cabell Midland.
