Woodrow Marshall Unger

1922-2021

Woodrow Marshall Unger, 98, of Fleming Island, Fla., formerly of Manassas, Va., passed away on July 30, 2021, at the Clyde Lasser VA Center in St. Augustine, Florida.

He was born on October 1, 1922, in Greenwood, Morgan County, W.Va., a son of Thurman Unger and Flora Mae Bishop Unger Randall Fox.

While stationed at Indian River Naval Base in Florida, he met and married Mildred Ruth Brown Unger who preceded him in death after 64 years of marriage.

He retired from Atlantic Research in Alexandria, Va. Surviving are four children: Jacqueline Unger Davis, of Fleming Island, Fla., James Unger, of Baltimore, Md,, Donald Unger, of North Chesterfield, Va., and Kimberly Unger, of Fleming Island, Fla.; six grandchildren: Jeffrey Davis, Craig Davis, Tammy Bowers, Tracy Unger, Adam Unger, Aaron Unger; seven great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a proud veteran of World War II and throughout his life time carried his metal dog tags attached to his key ring. Not long ago, he surprised a store clerk when he produced the aged ID to verify his status as a veteran to qualify for a customer service promotion the store was offering to past and current members of the armed forces.

A memorial service is planned for a later date.

Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Morgan County, W.Va.
