William Rudolph Lewis
William “Bill” Rudolph Lewis, age 76, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Friday, August 6, 2021 at WVUH East Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born December 6, 1944 in Eckhart Mines, Md., he was the son of the late Rudolph Bradford and Hilda Ruth Leasure Lewis.
He was of the Methodist faith.
Bill was a graduate of Beall High School in Frostburg, Md.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with two stars, a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star Medal with V device for Valor. He was honorably discharged at the rank of SP4.
He had worked as a butcher at the A&P/Superfresh in Hancock for 23 years and then at the Food Lion in Berkeley Springs for 16 years. Bill was a member and Past Governor of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1483, Risinger-Stotler V.F.W. Post #4019 where he had served as Sargent at Arms, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #4433 where he had served as Vice President, Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post #60 where he had served as Sargent at Arms and Head of the House Committee, AMVETS, was a member of the Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Company and the Morgan County Deputy Reserves.
He is survived by one sister, Norma Mae Lewis and one brother, Ronald Lee Lewis, both of York, Pa.; his daughter, Ann Marie Cosner of Derwood, Md., and several nieces and nephews. Bill was a beloved brother and friend to everyone he met.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his companion, Barbara Kave.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., with Pastor Charles Garza officiating.
Interment with military honors provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard will be in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone, Md. The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
