Leila E. Stuckey
Leila Eloise Michael Stuckey, age 91, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at Harmony of Martinsburg.
Born December 25, 1928 in Sleepy Creek, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Harley Calvin and Tracy Ethel Gates Michael.
Leila was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
She was a 1947 class graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.
Leila’s life was one of service. She was actively involved in 4-H throughout life including 68 years as a club leader. In addition, she served 50 years on the Camp Frame Board of Directors and was honored as an Emeritus Board of Directors in 2005. Leila received her 4-H All Star Pin.
She was proud to be a farmer’s wife and maintained a farm into her late 80’s. Other accomplishments included being the founding director of the Morgan County Senior Life Services, involvement in the founding of the Apple Butter Festival, where she was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 1998. Leila’s other organizations in which she was involved include a 75 year commitment to the Hemlock Homemakers CEOS, Morgan County American Cancer Society, Ye Towne of Bath Chapter Daughter of the American Revolution and the Pleasant View Community Center.
Lastly, Leila loved children. She often cared for her nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Leila was a lifelong children’s Sunday school teacher, church and board member including Michael’s Chapel, Mt. Pleasant and Grace United Methodist Churches.
Leila requested that her friends call on friends they haven’t seen in a long time.
Leila is survived by her nieces and nephews, Edward “Ed” Kaylor of Alabaster, Ala., Richard “Rick” Michael, Jr. of Martinsburg, Jeanne Laidlow, Cynthia “Cindy” Smalley and Kenneth Michael, Sr., all of Berkeley Springs: one godson, Barry Bivens of Key West, Fla.,; many great nieces and nephews, and many great great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vance Evon Stuckey on March 30, 1988; one sister, Helen Michael Kaylor and two brothers, Harley Lee Michael and Richard Calvin Michael.
Celebration of Life services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2020 at Camp Frame, 1362 Camp Frame Road, Hedgesville, W.Va., with Pastors Tony Pirrone and Ed Kaylor officiating.
Private burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Hedgesville, W.Va.
