Link takes over as Berkeley Springs police chief

The Berkeley Springs Police Department announced via their social media account on Monday that Sgt. Tony Link has taken office as the town’s new police chief. He will replace former police chief T.J.

Tony Link and K9 Ronan.

Johnson, who resigned from the post as chief and from the town’s police department in April.

According to Town Council minutes, Bath officials met on April 20 in an emergency meeting to approve the hire of Link as the new police chief. Mayor Scott Merki said Monday was Link’s first day as chief. Officials could not provide the salary figure for Link, and meeting minutes did not include that detail.

Link has worked as a part-time and full-time officer for the town police department for many years, and has also worked as a full-time deputy with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department. Link is the handler of K-9 officer Ronan. He will lead a department of himself and one patrolman. Mayor Merki said the town is looking to hire an additional part-time officer soon.
