On February 18, Johnny McGuire, the new police officer for the Berkeley Springs Poli
ce Department, was sworn in and began working for the town. McGuire was introduced at the Town of Bath council meeting that night. He is a part time employee.
McGuire, 51, said he has been a state certified police officer for 22 years. He is from the Fayetteville area and worked for several municipalities in the area. He worked in Oak Hill primarily, McGuire said.
In January 2019, McGuire moved his family to the area and began working as a police officer in the VA Hospital in Martinsburg. He is also federally certified.
He said friends told him about a part time position in Berkeley Springs, and since he wanted to keep his state certification, McGuire said he put in his application with the Berkeley Springs Police Department last summer. He was called for an interview in January and was recently hired.
His primary job is in Martinsburg, but he “wanted to get in the small town setting,” he said. “I’m used to a country setting,” McGuire said.
A full time officer position with the Town of Bath has not yet been filled.
