The Berkeley Springs High School Indians Varsity Boys Basketball Team hosted rival Keyser last Thursday, February 6. Just a few weeks earlier Keyser had blasted the Tribe 78-36 on their home court and this time around Berkeley Springs was looking for some redemption.
In the first quarter the two teams battled to a 14-14 tie at the buzzer. Berkeley Springs got scoring in the first quarter from Gavin Barkley (six points), Trent Kyne (two points), Ty’mir Ross (two points) and Carson Stotler (two points).
In the second quarter, Keyser outscored the Indians 25-10 to take a 39-24 halftime lead. Scoring in the second quarter for Berkeley Springs were Barkley (four points), Ross, Kyne and Stotler each had two points.
In the third quarter, Keyser maintained their double digit lead, 50-34. Barkley (seven points) and Kyne (three points) supplied the scoring for the Indians.
In the fourth quarter, both teams opened up the scoring as the Tribe outscored the visitors from Mineral County 29-23. Despite winning the final quarter Keyser hung on to defeat the Indians 73-63.
Barkley led Berkeley Springs with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Also filling the stat sheet for the Indians was Stotler (15 points and eight assists), Kyne (14 points and four rebounds), Ross (six points and two rebounds), Jordan Miller (three points) and Shawn Lord (three points).
Next up for Berkeley Springs was a home contest Monday, February 10 with the Northern Garrett Huskies. On Thursday, February 13 the Indians will host Faith Christian Academy. The junior varsity game will start at 6 p.m. and the varsity game will follow at 7:30 p.m. Then on Saturday, February 15 the Indians will host the Philip Barbour Colts. The junior varsity game will start at 2 p.m. and the varsity game will follow at 3:30 p.m.
