A trial scheduled for this past Monday, March 11, for one of the three people accused of murdering Hancock resident Edward Gilhart in 2016 has been continued, according to Franklin County District Attorney Matthew Fogal.
Fogal said the trial for Ryan Horton, 30, has been delayed and a pretrial conference is scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, March 14.
“I’m hoping to get it tried in just a few months from now, depending on the judge’s availability,” Fogal said in an email to The Hancock News.
Fogal said the trials for Christian Harris and Emily Tucker would take place after Horton’s.
The three are accused of murdering Gilhart in what is described as a roadside robbery scheme on June 2, 2016, near Mercersburg in Franklin County.
Gilhart was on his way to work in the early morning hours that day when he stopped to examine a duffle bag in the middle of the road.
Harris and Horton came from behind a rock, shooting Gilhart multiple times and removing the contents of his wallet, including $24 in cash.
Gilhart’s vehicle was found approximately 25 miles away from the murder scene in Fulton County along Mill Road.
