Tribe upsets Frankfort behind Barkley brothers 44 point night

The Berkeley Springs High School gym was a rowdy place last Tuesday, January 29 when the Frankfort Falcons came to town to play the Tribe. Earlier in the season Frankfort handed the Indians a 30 point loss.
The Tribe and Falcons finished the first quarter tied at 17-17.
Berkeley Springs was led in the first quarter by freshman Gavin Barkley who scored seven points. Payton Mann (six points), Nate Bland (three points) and Ty’Jae Armstrong (one point) rounded out the scoring.
In the second quarter Berkeley Springs outscored the visitors from Mineral County 15-8 to hold a 32-25 halftime lead. The Indians were led in the second quarter by EJ Barkley (four points),  Armstrong (four points), Gavin Barkley (three points), Bland (two points) and Larry Miller (two points).
The third quarter saw the Tribe outscore the Falcons 15-11 to keep the lead by the score of 47-36. The scoring in the third quarter was done by the Barkley brothers. Senior EJ Barkley had 12 points and Gavin Barkley had three points.
In the final quarter the Indians and Falcons each scored 20 points, but with some precision free throw shooting Berkeley Springs held on to pull off the upset over Frankfort by the score of  67-56.
Berkeley Springs was led by EJ Barkley who scored a game high 24 points. Barkley only had four field goals, but was an astonishing 13-14 from the free throw line. Brother Gavin Barkley had 20 points and was 5-6 from the free throw line.
Berkeley Springs also got scoring from Armstrong (eight points), Mann (six points), Bland (five points), Carson Stotler (two points) and Miller (two points).
As a team Berkeley Springs was 24-32 from the free throw line which was the key to the Tribe victory.
Berkeley Springs was back in action Monday, February 4 with an away contest at Keyser.  Then today, Wednesday, February 6 the Indians will host Elkins with the junior varsity game at 6 p.m. and the varsity at 7:30 p.m. Then on Friday, February 8 the Indians will travel to Grafton for a 7:15 p.m. game.
