Workshop on depot, trail set for Oct. 25

by Trish Rudder

The Town of Bath has many projects its committees are working on, and a community workshop called “Putting the Pieces Together” will be held on Thursday, October 25 at 10 a.m. at the Ice House in Berkeley Springs.

The town’s Streetscapes committee co-chair Sally Marshall said the workshop topics include updates on the North Berkeley Rail Trail, the Train Depot interior rehabilitation project, remediation and design of the Train Depot lot, Streetscapes Phase 4A and the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) ramps/corners on U.S. 522, and the Berkeley Springs State Park project.

Construction on these projects will begin over the next several months.

“This workshop will help everybody understand how these projects are related and how we are “putting the pieces together,” Marshall said in the press release.

The format will be short presentations and illustrations or storyboards for each of the projects. Local community leaders who are directing the various projects will make the presentations. The design and engineering firms and the WV Department of Highways (DOH) staff implementing the projects will join them.   Projects to be discussed will include:

— North Berkeley Rail Trail Project: the trail route and trailheads, funding sources, project schedule and timeline.

–Train Depot Interior Rehabilitation Project: scope of project, project schedule and timeline. The interior will be used for general public use.

–Train Depot Lot, Remediation, Design and Future plans for Depot and Trailhead Area: scope of project, project schedule and timeline.

–Streetscape Improvements on Washington and Congress Streets, green infrastructures plans and construction of ADA corners on U.S. 522: scope of project, project schedule and timeline.

–Berkeley Springs State Park Project: new sidewalks and bridges designed by the DOH, scope of project, schedule and timeline.

The October 25 workshop will be held in the first floor classroom of the Ice House at the corner of Independence and Mercer streets.

Story boards for the projects will be on display either at Town Hall or the Morgan County Commission hallway in the courthouse after October 25 for members of the public who cannot attend the weekday session, Marshall said on Monday.

The community workshop is sponsored by the Town of Bath Streetscape Committee and the Morgan County North Berkeley Rail Trail Committee.
