Garland L. Maphis


Garland Lee Maphis, 85, of Great Cacapon, died Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at The Berkeley Springs Center LLC.

Born September 21, 1933 in Morgan County, he was the son of the late Raymond Lee and Zelma Lorraine Milburn Maphis.

He was a member of Woodrow Union Church in Paw Paw.

He attended public schools in Paw Paw and first worked at area farms, sawmills and in the pulpwood business. He then worked in the reconditioning department of B&M Chevrolet, Winchester, Va. and lastly on a local guardrail maintenance crew stationed out of Charlottesville, Va.

He liked to watch NASCAR races and football.

He is survived by his life partner of 60 years, Hilda Loretta Youngblood, at home.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Maphis.

Services and interment will be private.

Arrangements are being handled by Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs.
