Local man killed in accident

A Berkeley Springs man died last Saturday, June 9 in a single-vehicle accident in the Martinsburg area. Bobby A. Omps II, 44, was pronounced dead after being transported from the accident scene to Berkeley Medical Center, according to news reports.

Omps was one of two men in a 2003 Chevy pickup truck which struck a utility pole along Apple Harvest Drive around 10:30 p.m.

According to police, there were three occupants of the truck. Douglas Colvin III, 45, of Winchester was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. A third man, Larry Light Jr., 40, of Winchester survived the crash.

Berkeley County Sheriff Curtis Keller told news outlets that preliminary investigation indicates that speed and alcohol were a factor in the crash.
