A busy Morgan County Grand Jury handed down indictments on September 11 against 55 people for felony charges ranging from sexually abusing a preschooler to armed robbery and assorted thefts, burglaries and frauds.

Two dozen people were indicted by the Morgan County Grand Jury on Tuesday, September 4 as a direct result of an undercover drug investigation by the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department.

A 17-year-old Pennsylvania boy accidentally drowned last Friday in a large pond on Tuscarora Trail, south of Berkeley Springs.

Heavy rain and flooding in Berkeley Springs on Saturday afternoon, September 1, swamped the town’s business section at the height of Labor Day weekend.

The flash flood that inundated downtown Berkeley Springs with fast-moving muddy water after a series of severe thunderstorms flooded homes and businesses and damaged several streets.

A special meeting was called at the courthouse on Sunday, September 2, to address the flood issues and damages to downtown Berkeley Springs the day before.

Recorder Vince Kidwell said three people have approached him over the past week complaining about derelict properties in town.
