Great Cacapon couple killed in motorcycle crash

A Great Cacapon couple were killed on Saturday afternoon, August 11, when the motorcycle they were riding collided with an SUV in Little Orleans, Md.

Maryland State Police said that as a Jeep Cherokee was making a left turn on to eastbound High Germany Road, it hit a motorcycle ridden by Charles Hewitt, 53, and Carol Hewitt, 68, of Great Cacapon.

The Jeep Cherokee was driven by Rebecca Geraldine Hess, 60, of Warfordsburg, Pa. and was pulling out of the Citgo Fuel Station as the motorcycle approached, according to police.

The Hewitts were thrown from the motorcycle as it skidded and slid into the Jeep’s driver side. They were killed on impact, police said.

Hess and her passenger, Doris Jean Scott, 76, of Artemas, Pa,, were taken to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center in Cumberland with injuries that didn’t appear to be serious, police said.

No charges had been filed, but police said the investigation remains under way.
