C. Franklin Shockey

Charles Franklin Shockey, 92, formerly of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Monday, August 6, 2012 at the Barbara J. Egan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Shrewsbury, Pa. He was the husband of the late Jean Shockey whom he married on May 30, 1945 in England.

A family memorial service will be held in Berkeley Springs at a later date.

Born June 28, 1920 in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., he was a son of the late James Walter and Margaret Virginia (Leary) Shockey.

Frank was a United States Army veteran having served in Europe during Word War II, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He earned a degree in accounting from Mountain State Business College in Parkersburg, W.Va., and worked for 37 years before retiring in 1982 from a management position at the Pennsylvania Glass Sand Corporation in Berkeley Springs.

Frank was a Third Degree Mason and member of the Deford Lodge #88 AF&AM, Berkeley Springs. Other memberships included the Aldertson-Dawson American Legion Post 60 in Berkeley Springs, Berkeley Springs Lions Club and the Trinity-Asbury United Methodist Church in Berkeley Springs.
Frank volunteered his time and talents in support of community initiatives. He and Jean traveled extensively, including visits to family in England. They also spent many happy holidays at beaches from Maine to Florida. Frank was dedicated to his family and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

He is survived by a daughter, Margaret V. Federline and her husband Greg of Palm Coast, Fla.; a son, Jeffrey L. Shockey and his wife Debbie of Shrewsbury; grandchildren, Christine Federline, Chelsea Shockey and Madison Shockey; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Frank was preceded in death by brothers, J. Walter Shockey, Jr. and Thomas C. Shockey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Frank’s name may be made to Trinity-Asbury United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 672, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.
