Another angle
Dear Editor:
I would like to respond to the letter from Angela Gray attacking Commissioner Brenda Hutchinson. In the meeting prior to Mrs. Gray being interviewed for the vacancy on the Board of Health, Hutchinson was fired from the position by Commissioners Stacy Dugan and Brad Close.
Hutchinson felt she had been blind-sided in that she was anxious to continue serving on that board and had expected to be reappointed. She had just recently been selected as vice-president of the board, a clear indication that her fellow board members not only respected her but expected her to continue serving.
One commissioner had evidently told people that Hutchinson was fine with that decision. That was untrue and Hutchinson made that known. It is unfortunate that the discussion took place during the interview process for Gray to replace Hutchinson.
I respect Gray’s opinion, but I found Dugan’s and Close’s behavior more unprofessional and hostile than anything Hutchinson said.
It was a class act that when Gray’s nomination was voted on last week, Commissioner Hutchinson voted to support her. I am certain Gray will make an excellent replacement on the Board of Health. I only hope that when her term is up, and if she wants to be reappointed, that the commissioners treat her more fairly than Dugan and Close treated Hutchinson.
