Commission makes board appointments

After much debate on appointments to the County Planning Commission and Board of Health, a representative for each was selected by the Morgan Commissioners at their Thursday, July 19 meeting.

George Didawick was named to replace Amy Lane on the County Board of Health. Didawick spent 38 years with U.S. Silica and retired as Vice President of Operations last March.

Also interviewed for the post was Eric Pritchard.

“I think both candidates were excellent, but Mr. Didawick will be the most impartial,” said Commissioner Brad Close. “It’s very evident that there is passion everywhere, in all that we do.”

Commissioner Brenda Hutchinson opposed the appointment. She favored Lane’s reappointment.

“I believe we had the right person on the board to begin with, and I am very upset she was removed for personal reasons,” Hutchinson said.

For Board of Health, Angela Gray was chosen. Gray has a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Mountain State University and is currently a nurse for Berkeley County Health Department.

Hutchinson said she wasn’t opposed, but had expressed a desire to continue serving on the Board of Health herself.
